SoftScience
is a company started by one of the co-founders of Crocs. They
ultimately went out of business due to Covid supply chain issues, so this may be the last opportunity to
pick up a pair…or two!  We’re a couple of guys who belong to a small
group of fly fishing friends based in Colorado.  All of us gave up our
Simms boots for the Terrafin wading boot.  Let’s face it…I’ve never heard of anybody going on about how comfortable Simms Boots are.  I really don’t need to go into all the details about the boots construction because if you’re here, you already know how good they are.  When we found out that
SoftScience was going out of business, we chipped in our pennies and
bought 114 pair at auction.  We’re not trying to make a profit really,
we just want to break even and keep a couple of the ‘Best Wading Boots
Ever’ for ourselves.  If we do make some extra change, we’ll just waste
it on more flies!
Questions on ankle support….I’ve
never really spent anytime worrying about ankle support. I’ve never had
a problem with that. What I found, with the Simms boots, is 1) they’re
like ski boots to get on and off, 2) they’re not all that comfortable
IMHO, and 3) I don’t see any difference by way of felt vs the Croc’s
material as far as footing on slippery rocks. We fish the Roaring Fork
and Frying Pan rivers a lot and it can get slippery, yet I feel more
confident in these than my Simms. I think I can feel what’s under my
feet better. Grip is as good or better. You can use these boots as water
shoes if you want. Dry fast……And, damn their comfortable!!
To try to answer your questions on sizing….I’m
a thin sock and one smart wool sock kinda guy. I’m a size 9 shoe. So
with the socks and my waders, I size up 2. I’ve been wearing a
10….kinda tight, so I went to an 11. If it’s a warm day and I’m doing
some bank fishing, I wear neoprene booties with one sock with a 10. But
some of my buddies wear only one sock and waders and size up one. If
you’re not fishing in cold rivers like us, probably one sock and waders
would be one size up for you. The uppers on these boots are flexible so
you can tighten/loosen the laces to really tighten/loosen the
boot….unlike the Simms ski boots. Clear as high runoff water?
